Part 9
"MATT!!!" Adam banged on the elevator doors. He desperately jabbed the button for the elevator, but he knew it was futile. He let his head rest against the cold metal doors, tears slipping down his cheeks. He didn't understand what had happened. One minute, they were making love, the next, Matt was accusing him of drugging him.
Adam heard a whistle from behind him. He turned around, finding Amy standing behind him, her arms crossed over her skin-tight halter top and an approving look on her face. He blushed bright red as he felt her eyes scan down his body, realizing he hadn't bothered to put on any clothes.
"Nice," Amy commented, raising her eyebrows. "How would you like to come back to my room for a little while, baby? I'm sure I can show you a good time." She eyed his fit body again, focusing on a certain spot right below his middle. "Mmm, and with that body, I'm sure you can show me a VERY good time."
Adam blushed even deeper. "I - I have to get back to my room," he stuttered, quickly jogging down the hall and dashing back into his hotel room. Amy watched his bare ass as it bounced down the corridor. "Damn," she commented, licking her lips. "Why are the really hot ones always gay?" She sighed in disappointment when Adam's door slammed shut, then went off to find her bell boy again.
Back in his room, Adam was almost on the verge of a mental breakdown. He snatched the phone, punching in Jay's room number with a shaking hand. " æLow?" Jay asked, sounding a bit sleepy.
"Jay, jay please, come down to my room now!" Adam exclaimed. He dropped the phone back onto its base, burying his head in his hands. He collapsed onto the bed, shoving off the pills scattered across the mattress along with the covers. He pressed his face into a pillow, sobbing uncontrollably and wondering what could've gone so wrong.
A few minutes later, there was a loud knock on the door. Taking a deep breath to get some control over his shaking body, Adam stumbled to the door and pulled it open. He quickly yanked Jay into the room, slamming the door behind him. Jay's eyes widened as he took in the sight of his best friend, who was still naked and visibly shaking.
"God Jay, I'm so glad you're here!" Adam sobbed, pulling his friend into a none too gentle embrace. He buried his face in Jay's shoulder, his tears continuing to flow. Jay automatically wrapped his arms around Adam's back, gently stroking his bare skin.
"It's ok," Jay whispered softly, holding his friend tightly. "It's ok, just let it out." He guided them back into a chair, sitting down and pulling Adam into his lap. The distraught blonde curled up into a ball on Jay's lap, keeping his tear streaked face pressed into Jay's clothed shoulder. At last, he sobs began to abate, leaving him shivering in the golden blonde's lap.
"You should put on some clothes," Jay whispered to Adam.
Adam shook his head. "No. I don't want to get up yet."
Jay nodded, gently stroking the side of Adam's face. "Well let's put you back to bed, then." He stood up, pulling Adam with him and guiding him to the bed. He noticed the rumpled sheets, telling him precisely what had transpired earlier, but he made no comment about it. He simply helped Adam onto the mattress, then retrieved the covers off the floor and tucked Adam in under the sheets. He lay down on top of the covers and rested his head on his hand, lying on his side so he was looking directly at Adam. "Now are you going to tell me what happened?" he prodded.
Adam sniffed, trying to pull the covers up higher to hide his face. "I'm not quite sure," he whispered. "Last night, Matt and I ate the food you sent us, and, well, we got kind of silly. We started goofing around, and - " he paused to swallow "we ended up getting kind of physical, and we had sex. Then this morning, I woke up to Matt screaming about how I'd drugged him and tricked him into it, and he ran out of here really upset. I don't know what happened!"
Jay was listening intently. Noticing the broken bottle on the floor, he picked it up and showed it to Adam. "Was this what he meant when he said he drugged you?"
Adam nodded. "Yes, but I don't know where that come from! It wasn't here last night, I swear! I didn't drug him, Jay, I would never do that! I would never force anyone into sex, ever! I figured that Matt and I would get there eventually, but I really didn't care when. I haven't met a guy like Matt in a long time - hell, I haven't ever met a guy like Matt! He's worth everything and anything. And now he hates me, and I don't even understand why!"
Jay was frowned, his eyes slightly narrow. "I think this is just a little too convenient," he murmured, his voice nearly a hiss.
Adam jumped at his friend's harsh tone of voice, a pained look coming across his features. "Jay, please tell me you believe me! I'm telling the truth, I swear I am!"
Jay patted Adam's arm reassuringly. "I believe you, Adam. But I think someone else has been lying, and I'm damn well gonna find out why." He stood up and walked over to the door, clutching the drug bottle in his hand.
"Jay!" Adam wailed from the bed. "Please don't leave me alone! I'm sorry to be such a baby, but I - I don't want to be alone right now."
Jay paused at the door, considering. "If I call Chris and stay with you until he arrives, would that be ok?" he questioned. "I've got a theory to investigate."
Adam swallowed, then nodded. Jay walked over to sit on the bed again, reaching for the phone to call his closest friend besides Adam.
Part 10
Stephanie McMahon jabbed the button for the elevator a third time, scowling when it had no result. She sighed and reluctantly began climbing up the stairs. On the forth floor, she bumped into Chris Jericho, who seemed to be in a considerable rush.
"Geez, what's your hurry?" Stephanie snapped.
"I'm sorry," Chris apologized quickly. "Jay just called me. Adam and Matt got in a fight, and it's not good."
"What?" Stephanie's eyes widened. "They're not hurt, are they?"
Chris winced. "Well not physically, but apparently Adam's pretty broken up about it. I was just on my way up to his room."
"I'll come with you," Stephanie decided, motioning for him to continue and following him up several more flights of stairs. The three blonde Canadians were some of her best friends in the WWF, and she wanted to make sure Adam was alright. She couldn't imagine what the couple could've fought about. Adam was the sweetest, most loving man she knew, and she had never seen him be anything but kind and affectionate Matt.
Chris started leaping up the stairs three at a time, leaving her a considerable distance behind. By the time she reached the right floor, Stephanie was more than a little sick of climbing stairs. She walked up to the door of Adam's room, only to be nearly run over by Jay Reso.
"Oh, Steph, I'm sorry!" the golden blonde exclaimed, offering her his hand and pulling her to her feet. "You ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Stephanie glanced at the door to the room. "Is Adam alrgiht?"
"He'll be ok, with Chris there," Jay replied. "As far as his emotional well-being, I just don't know. If we can't get him and Matt back together..." Jay let his sentence trail off and shrugged.
"What happened?" Stephanie asked curiously. "I know Adam has been like a pillar of strength through his whole ordeal with Jeff."
Jay sighed. "Yeah, he's tried to be there for Matt, and we both know Jeff doesn't like it. I think it was a setup." He reached into his pocket and pulled out the empty pill bottle, handing it to her. "Apparently what happened was - " He paused and clear his throat. "Well, last night Matt and Adam ended up being - um - intimate for the first time."
Stephanie raised her eyebrows. "Oh."
"Yeah." Jay gestured to the bottle. "This morning, Matt found that in Adam's back, and got really upset æcos he thought Adam had drugged him. But you and I both know Adam would never, ever do something like that. I think Jeff and Amy set it up."
"I wouldn't put it past them." Stephanie frowned, clutching the bottle tighter in her hand. "I think I'd better have a talk with those two. I've seen the way they've been treating Matt lately, and it's disgusting. If what you think is right, well then they've really crossed the line. I'd better phone the lobby and get Jeff's room number."
"Already done," Jay replied. "I was just about to go down there and confront him. "Would you like to come with me?" he offered. Stephanie nodded. She met his gaze directly, and they shared a small smile before Jay cleared his throat uncomfortably and glanced down at the floor. "Well we'd better get going," he said quickly. Stephanie nodded again, and they headed off down the corridor.
Jeff had just helped Matt into his room when there was a knock on the door. "That had better not be housekeeping," he muttered, stomping over to the door. "What?" he snapped as he yanked the door open. He was taken aback when he saw a very displaced looking Stephanie McMahon standing outside the door, Jay Reso at her side. "Um, sorry. Hi Steph." He smiled brightly at the youngest McMahon. "You look really nice today," he said politely, flinching when she continued frowning at him.
"Jeff, we need to have a talk," Jay growled, his voice low and dangerous.
"Why?" Jeff's face darkened as he looked between his visitors. "If it's about Adam, you can forget it! I'm not gonna allow any guy to treat my brother that way!"
"You know damn well Adam would never hurt Matt!" Jay exclaimed, getting right up in Jeff's face. "You set it up, didn't you you little bitch? When you came to my room and asked me to send that food to Matt, you were just using it was an excuse so you could drug them, then trick Matt into thinking it was Adam!"
Jeff gasped in mock horror. "Why, I would never!"
"Like hell you wouldn't!" Jay yelled back.
"What the heck is going on here?!?" came an annoyed female voice from down the hallway. The three looked up to see Amy approaching them. When she reached them, she stood with her hands on her hips, glaring at Jay and Stephanie. "Why are you two harassing Jeff?"
"They think I drugged Matt, and blamed Adam for it!" Jeff told her, putting on his best innocent face.
Amy gasped. "How could you think Jeff would ever help a sick pervert like Adam take advantage of his brother?!? You're full of shit, Jay! I bet you helped Adam do it, didn't you?" she accused, glaring daggers at the golden blonde.
Jay narrowed his eyes, taking a deep breath to calm himself. "You might as well just admit it, Amy," he said quietly, his voice filled with poison. "I know you were in on it too."
Amy crossed her arms, smirking at him cockily. "Well good luck getting Matt to believe that. You've got no proof."
"I think we do." All eyes turned to Stephanie. The brunette shook her head, her eyes locked on Amy. "You really aren't very bright, are you?" She held up the bottle she had been holding in her hand. "These pills are prescribed to Amy Dumas," she announced.
Part 11
All eyes turned on Amy, who glanced around nervously and cleared her throat. Jeff stood in shock for a moment, then he whirled on the redhead. "Amy, how could you?!?" he screamed, glaring at her angrily. "How could you help that horrible man take advantage of my poor brother?"
"Me?" Amy glared right back at him. "You were the one who planted the pills in his bag, you asshole!"
Jeff gasped. "I most certainly did not!" He turned to the others, pointing accusingly at Amy. "She's lying! She set this up all along! You know I wouldn't have ever agreed to something like this, I love my brother! I would never, ever want to see him abused and violated by some monster, even if it would make him see the light!"
Amy was glaring daggers at the younger man. "You are such a bastard! We did it together and you know it! You're just playing the good boy now æcos you want to get in the little Princess' pants!" Stephanie's eyes widened, and Jeff turned a little pale. Amy turned to Stephanie, fury blazing in her eyes. "He's had a crush on you for months, he's just too much of a wuss to ask you out. Don't ask me why he'd bother," she said with a snort, glancing down at Stephanie's conservative outfit, the exact opposite of her own. "Everyone knows you're a prickly bitch whose knees are locked together tighter than a bank vault! Why I bet - " Amy stopped with a scream as Stephanie's fist connected with her nose.
"Nobody talks to me that way, you bitch!" Stephanie screamed, spearing Amy in the middle and knocking her onto her back. She preceded to straddle the redhead's middle, continuing to punch her with surprising strength.
"Steph! Come on!" Jay objected, grabbing Stephanie around the waist and trying to pull her off the shrieking woman. Stephanie gave his a harsh shove, sending him sprawling onto the floor. Jeff just watched, an amused smirk on his face.
"Jeff? What's going on?" Jeff turned around, seeing his puffy eyed brother standing right behind him.
"Nothing. Steph and Amy just got in a little fight," Jeff covered, gesturing to the woman on the floor. The fight was rather one-sided, Stephanie pounding away furiously at the wailing redhead. Jay was attempting to pull Stephanie off of Amy, finally succeeding in his task. Stephanie finally calmed down once she was standing with Jay's arms around her waist. She leaned back against his strong chest, taking a deep breathe.
"You can really pack a punch," Jeff commented, looking at Stephanie with a mix of awe and something else.
"Thank you." Stephanie stood up straighter and ran a hand through her hair. Jay gave her a reassuring smile, and she smiled back. Jeff frowned, but before he could say anything Stephanie took out her cell phone, glaring down at the woman on the floor as she flipped it open. "If you think I'm going to tolerate this kind of behavior in my company, you're crazy," Stephanie spat.
Amy wiped at the stream of blood coming from her nose, glaring defiantly at the McMahon heiress. "And what are you going to do? Huh?" she dared, using the wall for support as she rose to her feet.
"This. Yes, hello? Jim, this is Steph. I want you to go up to Ms. Dumas' room right now and confiscate her luggage, all of it. I believe she may be in possession of certain recreational drugs." Stephanie flipped the cell phone shut, crossing her arms over her chest. "You DON'T mess with McMahons," she stated coldly. "Until further notice, Amy, you're suspended. That is, provided we find what I think we will in your luggage."
Amy just stared at the young woman, completely floored. "But - but you can't - "
Stephanie leaned in a little closer to the redhead. "If you have anything you don't want us to find in there, Amy, I suggest you run." Amy's mouth dropped open a bit, then she spun around and bolted down the hall.
"That was beautiful," Jay commented, slightly in awe of Stephanie's power and command of it.
"Thank you," Stephanie replied, sharing another smile with the golden blonde that made Jeff frown. Stephanie glanced past Jeff, only then noticing Matt's presence. She looked at Jeff, a hard look on your face. "Jeff, I think you'd better confess to your brother now if you ever want to earn his forgiveness."
Jeff hesitated a moment, glancing between the powerful woman and his brother, then broke down in tears. "It's true!" he sobbed. "But it was all Amy's idea, I swear it was! She said - she said if you thought Adam had tricked you, then you'd come back to me." Jeff looked at Matt's pleadingly, shaking from his tears. Matt's expression was unreadable. "It was all her," Jeff continued. "She kept telling me how wrong it was what you were doing, and, and eventually, I started to believe it. I wouldn't have done those things, said those things to you if she hadn't pushed me to." Jeff shook his head, his words slurred slightly by his sobs. He looked genuinely afraid. "Please Matt, please forgive me. I was stupid! I'm so sorry. I'll explain everything to Adam, and I - I'll - " Jeff stopped and swallowed hard. "I'll even try to - to accept you being with him. I mean I can't overnight, but Matt I couldn't stand the thought of you hating me. Please!" He buried his face in his hands, all his emotion flooding out.
Jay and Stephanie just stood staring at him as he broke down, neither sure what to do. Jay glanced at Stephanie, nodding toward the elevator with his head. Stephanie nodded, and they took a few steps down the hall before Matt's voice stopped them. "Wait." They looked back, seeing the elder Hardy standing in the doorway, his expression still unreadable. "Please, come in. You're a part of this too," Matt said slowly, holding the door for the pair. They entered hesitantly. Matt lead them over to the couch and motioned for them to sit, then turned back to Jeff.
"Matt?" Jeff bit his lip, glancing at his brother hesitantly.
Matt sighed and ran a hand through his dark curls. "Jeff, of all the things I've been through in the past months, I never, ever thought you could do something like this to me. You have no idea how much this hurts me." He closed his eyes, the pain evident on his face. "But you're my brother, and I love you, no matter what you've done. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and give you a chance to change now that Amy won't be in the picture." He opened his eyes slowly, his gaze piercing right through his brother. "You're going to have to earn back my trust, Jeff. You've been putting me through hell for months, and now this - " Matt shook his head. "I can't forgive you overnight."
"I will, Matt, I swear I will!" Jeff promised, walking hesitantly toward his brother. He stopped, looking unsure. Matt gazed at him for a moment, then pulled his little brother into a hug. "I won't disappoint you this time, Matt, I swear to you I won't," Jeff babbled, tears slipping from his eyes and wetting Matt's shirt. "Thank you so much, Matt! I love you so much." Jeff had a smile on his face, a gleam of hope in his eyes. His eyes seemed more alive than they had been since the whole mess had started. He quickly pulled out his cell phone and dialed a number. "I'm calling Adam," he explained. "I'm going to explain everything to him, and I'm going to make sure everything is alright between you two. If he hates me - " Jeff swallowed hard. "Well then I'll just have to deal with that, because I deserve it."
Matt shook his head. "He won't hate you, Jeff. He'll love you because I do. Your support means so much to me, Jeff." Matt smiled, squeezing his brother's hand lovingly as the younger Hardy put the phone up to his ear. He left Jeff to summon Adam via phone, walking over to the couch to observe the couple sitting there. They were talking quietly, and Jay had his arm around Stephanie's shoulders. They both jumped when Matt cleared his throat.
"So?" Matt looked between them. "What's going on here?"
"Nothing," Stephanie replied innocently, glancing at Jay. "Um - Jay just asked me out to dinner, is all."
Matt smiled, his first genuinely happy smile in a long time. "Well I'm glad something good came out of this whole mess."
"What came out of it?" Jeff asked, walking over to the couch as he shoved his cell back into his pocket.
"Can't you see?" Matt gestured to Jay and Stephanie.
"Oh." Jeff looked rather unhappy, but he sighed and a small smile came across his face. "Well I'm happy for you two, even if it is true what Amy said. I know I don't deserve someone like you." Jeff glanced at Stephanie, a sad look on his face.
Stephanie smiled at him, her expression gentle and caring. Jay noted that it was amazing how she could go from powerful and commanding to soft and loving in a matter of minutes. "Maybe you'll find someone another day, Jeff. You've got plenty of time," she said gently. "You promised you'd change, and I believe you, because I believe you love your brother."
Jeff smiled that small smile against. "Thanks Steph," he whispered.
Matt put his arm around his brother's shoulder, squeezing him supportively.
He had a feeling that given a little time, they were all going to be feeling
a lot better.
